ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Tha ALS Ice Bucket challenge has gone viral!! To date this challenge has raised more than 9.5 MILLION dollars for the ALS Association and resulted in about 185,000 NEW donors. This is huge for any non-profit but one of the great benefits is the fight to cure ALS has been brought into the national spotlight in a real way.

"We have never seen anything like this in the history of the disease,” said Barbara Newhouse, President and CEO of The ALS Association. “We couldn’t be more thrilled with the level of compassion, generosity and sense of humor that people are exhibiting as they take part in this impactful viral initiative."

Jessica is calling out out Nicholas Lowinger, founder of Gotta Have Sole (since Nicholas has done the challenge Lori will be doing it on behalf of Gotta Have Sole), Sarah Cronk, founder of The Sparkle Effect, and Bob Carscadden along with all the other instructors at Cymer (since he doesn't have a class this week). She is gleefully sending a check to support ALS research!!

Thanks so much to Jerome's Furniture for donating beds to our local fire fighters none of this would be possible with out you. A good night's sleep is so important especially for the men and women who protect us. A big thank you to Amy Linden who got a request from an 11 year old and took it seriously and to Steven Luke from NBC San Diego who took time to cover this and was so patient with Jessica who is still recovering from her surgery last week.

Lastly a BIG thank you to all the fire fighters not only at Station 33 but all across the country who work tirelessly to protect us.

A Helping Hand From Camp Helping Hands

Today the We Care Bears Project had the great pleasure of holding a mini Bear Bagging Event with the help of the great kids at Camp Helping Hands in Thousand Oaks, CA.

The goal behind Camp Helping Hands is to get young children involved in their community through service-learning. Camp Helping Hands leaves participants with a positive and lasting impression by having them work together to help make a difference in their community where it is needed most.

Thanks to the kids all the helping hands today we were able to create 25 bags (195 stuffed animals) of stuffed animals for the Venture County Fire Department.

A special THANK YOU to firefighters from Venture Fire who took time out of their busy day to pick up the stuffed animals and explain why they make such a difference when a child is scared or injured.

People who learn about my project always think it is great that I am helping people, and it is, but it also provides me with some great opportunities. This trip to Ohio is the perfect example.

We spent a lot of time learning about running our non-profits…

Special Delivery

Today was a very special day for the We Care Bears Project. Today I delivered bears to the Chadwick Center at Rady Children's Hospital.

Why was this so special? Because it is the first delivery to an organization that contacted ME. Usually either my Mom or I reach out to organizations regarding my project and offer bears to them. But this time I got an e-mail from the very nice Ms. Monica asking if I could donate to the Chadwick Center.

The second reason this was so special is because of the mission of the Chadwick center. I talked about it with my Mom because, as you know, I usually donate to first responders to "help children who are scared or injured". Well, the Chadwick Center is one of the largest hospital based child advocacy and trauma treatment centers in the nation, is staffed with more than 75 professionals in the field of medicine, social work, psychology, psychiatry, child development, nursing and education technology and they serve children who are physically or sexually abused. Those kids are probably BOTH scared AND injured and so they fit with my mission perfectly. I was happy to be able to donate 100 Beanie Babies to center and will now set aside Beanie Babies for them. I really hope they never need another stuffed animal for child that has been hurt but I know they will and I am happy to help however I can.

Clark County Nevada

One of my first bear donations outside of Southern California was to the Clark County Fire Department in Nevada. The first time I took them bears I was in Las Vegas for a cheer competition...

...so when our family was planning a vacation I KNEW I wanted Las Vegas to be our first stop so I could take more bears to my friends at Clark County Fire.

I was happy to be able deliver 20 bags of bears today and see my friend, the Assistant Fire Chief, Ms. Baker.
